Saints Astray Contest!

Thanks to the wonderful Jacqueline Carey, I am hosting a giveaway for a signed copy of Saints Astray! If you haven't heard of Jacqueline Carey (her website is here) then you're really missing out on reading some of the most eloquently written books. Personally, I am addicted to her wordsmithing as much as her plot lines. Ironically I finished re-reading Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series just mere days before she announced this giveaway. Hint: the last line is important. ;)

Anywho, Saints Astray is her latest book and I know many of you are here just because you want to know how to get your paws on this book, so here you go...

All you have to do to get your signed copy of Saints Astray is leave a comment on this post by midnight November 15th telling me which of the Kushiel's Legacy books is your favorite (Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, Kushiel's Avatar, Kushiel's Scion, Kushiel's Justice or Kushiel's Mercy) and leave your email as well (otherwise I won't be able to get in touch with you if you win!). If you haven't read any of of the Kushiel's Legacy books, just tell me why you want Saints Astray.

Rules (I know, I don't like them all the time either) are as follows: Only one comment per person will be counted. Submissions without email addresses will be considered void. Once the winner has been chosen, it will be announced on this blog as well as via email to the random yet lucky winner. Questions can be sent to me at sorchaealaros@gmail.com.

The winner will be chosen at random and will be announced the morning of Wednesday, November 16th! Good luck! :)

My faaaavorite was easily Kushiel's Avatar, probably because it brought Imriel and Phedre together.

  2. Kushiel's Dart will always have a special place in my heart, but I love pretty much all of them! But just for simplicities sake and not having to spend the next how ever long to figure out which one I like "best"... I'll simply say Dart is my favorite!

    Hope I win.

  3. Kushiel's Justice, definitely.

  4. Kushiel's Justice is probably my favorite because of the amount of character-development Imriel goes through during all his trials between Sidonie and Dorelei throughout the book.

  5. I'd have to say Kushiel's Justice. It was the first one I read (just kind of stumbled upon it) so I was immediately thrown into the love of Imriel and Sidonie and couldn't get enough. Second is probably Avatar since that's how they find Imriel. But I love them all!!!

  12. I like Dart the best because it has the most action and betrayal. The first book in a series, and the first I read by Carey, is hard to beat based on pure awe and excitement of a new story to ingest. Second favorite is probably Namaah's Curse which you didn't list as an option but is good.

  15. Wow, awesome idea. I will put my 2 cents in for Kushiel's Avatar. The climax of the series hit me so hard, with the twist at the heartstrings that was intensely cathartic. The characters grew, and became so strong. It was a fantastic wrap up of the trilogy that will always stick with me.

I only picked up Santa Olivia this Summer on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. These characters are every bit as deep and fun to read about.

    Thanks for the contest!

  22. Oh choosing is just so difficult. I'm with you that her writing is amazing not just for the plot lines. But if I had to pick I would say Kushiel's Dart. For me that first dive into the realm of Terre d'Ange and the world she brings to life on page is priceless. I find that none of the others books can surpass this introduction to Phèdre nó Delaunay and the start of such great stories. I'd love Saints Astray, especially signed!, as I am a fan of all Jacqueline Carey writing and have read them all numerous times. Email: kimslice18@hotmail.com Thank you for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  23. My favourite is Kushiel's Dart because Jacqueline Carey introduces Phedre and Joscelin and you can tell that they will end up happily ever after, but they won't like it at times. How much more romantic can you get? Kidnapped, nearly killed, then saving your country from the hottest villain alive?

  41. It's hard to pick a favorite. Very hard. The one that got to me most was Kushiel's Chosen however, simply because of the parting and re-uniting of Phedre and Joscelin. It is a strong undercurrent that eventually forges the story and luckily ends with the realization they simply can't do without eachother, despite (or thanks to?) their immense differences.

  44. My favorite would have to be the first one, Kushiel's Dart, because it opened up a whole new and amazing world and introduced me to the amazing Jacqueline Carey (now my all-time favorite author). My email address is a_e_o101@hotmail.com. Hope you pick me! :D

    ReplyDelete
  45. Kushiel's Avatar has to be my favorite, which is kind of odd when I think about it. It's the book I dread most when I find myself beginning the series anew. The thing is, the darkness in the book throws the light into such sharp relief, it's spellbinding! Even knowing all the twists and turns, and even the outcome, I still find myself crying, and even yelling or cheering out loud. I fell in love with so many characters in Kushiel's Dart and Kushiel's Chosen, but it was in Kushiel's Avatar that this love grew into something unconditional. I would have forgiven them anything after that.

I'm enjoying reading others' answers. This is a fun contest! Thank you!

  61. Loved all the Phedre books (and some of the Imri ones), but I have to say that Kushiel's Avatar was my favorite. It was just so epic, both with all they go through in Drujan and what it does to all 3 of them, and then the journey back and forth to get the Name of God. Too amazing!

Santa Olivia was wonderful in its own way, and I can't wait to read more of the Santitos adventures.

    Thanks for posting about this!

  63. I adore Ms Carey's writing for her ability to change voices and the depth in which she develops her worlds. Strong female characters are also a plus. I keep hoping HBO (or whoever) will pick up one of her novels and turn it into a series.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hard question! Kushiel's Dart is the one I have highlighted the most (no one writes as beautifully as Jacqueline Carey) and some of those passages really stick with you! She was also at her most carefree in the beginning of the book, and her and Hyacinth's childhood relationship is great to read about.

  65. It's really hard to pick just one! Dart will always be special to me because it was the beginning of the awesome journey through the series. The line, “that which yields is not always weak", struck me and sticks with me everyday (in the form of a tattoo).

I love Avatar because not only does it get extremely dark but it does such a wonderful job at showing the healing powers of love.

And lastly, Justice. As much as I love Phedre and Joscelin I am a huge sucker for Imriel and Sidonie. The secret affair is hot and the reunion so beautifully bittersweet. I also love the themes of understanding and forgiveness.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I love all of her books, but if I had to pick one it would probably be Kushiel's Mercy.

  71. Kushiel's Dart; not only did this book introduce me to the wonderful mind of Carey, it also opened my mind and plucked me out of the dark when I needed it the most. 72. I have to say my favorite Jacquiline Carey work is the one that first caused me to fall in love with her work. Kushiel's Dart was such a richky envisioned world that I not only read it voraciously, but also recommended it to my daughter and friends - many of whom have now followed with me as we read all three trilogies.

  73. Kushiel's Avatar has always been my favorite. Not only did it introduce Imriel for the next trilogy, but it added a new dimension to Joscelin and Phedre's relationship. Plus, at least to me, it seemed to have the most buildup for the end--which was epic!

unlike any other, and helped me find a new favourite author. It
introduces the world of the D'Angelines more explicitly than the
others, which helps set the foundation for me to enjoy the rest of the
