Tuesday's Top Pick
Yep, it's that time again. Shameless self promotion. Second Chance Pet Adoption's 12th annual Auction for the Animals is this Friday, August 10 - it's a great night out full of wonderful food, entertainment and items to bid on and everything goes to help the homeless cats and dogs of Second Chance! Follow the link through the pic above if you want to purchase auction or raffle tickets (and you don't have to attend the auction to win a raffle prize!).
So because of the Auction and my Dad being in the hospital over the weekend, I haven't had much time to come up with my normal Tuesday picks. Hopefully you'll forgive me.
But I did get a new lens for my camera today. So there's hope after all. ;)

Furry 5K
I am super excited to announced Second Chance Pet Adoption's Furry 5K! This event will take place on November 3 at Bond Park in Cary. It includes a 5K run, 2K dog walk and 1K senior dog walk!
This event will go to help the hundreds of homeless and abandoned animals that Second Chance helps each year! Second Chance is the oldest no-kill animal rescue in the Triangle - long before it was the thing the cool kids did!
Sam came up with a pretty genius idea for generating pledges for the Furry 5K and I'm pretty much doing the same thing.
For every $1 I get in pledges, that will be one mile I have to bike or walk during my routine workouts. I'm doing this to a) get back in shape and b) get money for Second Chance.
When November 3 comes around, whatever I haven't matched during my workouts, I will match in a personal donation to Second Chance.
For example, if I raise $300 in pledges but I only run or walk 200 miles, I will match that extra 100 and make a $200 donation to Second Chance on top of the pledges I've gotten.
I know, right! It's a win/win!
You can find my personal pledge page at www.secondchancenc.dojiggy.com/saram
I'll be posting pictures, and maybe if I'm brave enough, video of me working out and why I need to do it as times goes on.
For those of you who don't know, I had knee surgery about a year and a half ago and I've never fully recovered. Doing this will give me the encouragement I need to get back into working out again and hopefully get my knee healthy.
Now, let's all go and register for the Furry 5K and start pledging! You can find it at www.secondchancenc.dojiggy.com

Dog Days of June
I spent this past Saturday taking pictures on behalf of Second Chance Pet Adoptions at the Town of Cary's annual Dog Days of June. Dog Days of June is a free event that the Town of Cary organizes along with the help of a rescue and there is usually a free microchipping and rabies clinic, dog washing, dog agility shows, a dog frisbee contest and lots of vendors will cool things to sell and sometimes some free goodies!
Here is a random sampling of some of the pictures I took. If you want to see more, you have to go to Second Chance's Facebook page over here ;)

Cats and Puppies, and Dogs, oh my!
I was going to show you more of my garden today, but all the rain has prevented me from taking pictures. So here are some of the recent adoptables at Second Chance Pet Adoptions that I've had the pleasure of taking pictures of.

Catawba Cat Heart
Mr. Catawba in a Promotional Shot
I know I haven't been posting on here as much lately and for that I apologize. I have been busy volunteering with Second Chance Pet Adoptions (go visit them here) in attempts to improve my resume and land a "real" job.
Anywho, that handsome fella you see up above is Catawba, Second Chance's resident center cat. He has been with Second Chance for what seems like forever and he is a really cool cat... except for the fact that he doesn't like other animals, including cats, or children or even people, some days. He sometimes has a bit of anxiety issues and can very well have moments where you are petting him and then you find out that he really wanted you to stop petting him by way of teeth or claws. But other than that, he's pretty awesome.
But I've been good. Really good. And by that I mean I haven't flooded my blog with the roughly 300 Second Chance animal pictures I have taken in the past two months. ;)
And I promise, more print-worthy, non-animal pictures are on their way!

Second Chance Pet Adoptions
Normally I try to keep work and play separate, because let's face it, even though I love being creative, it currently doesn't pay the bills. So, yes, this blog and the fun stuff you see within is all play.
However, I have been interning/volunteering with a local non-profit animal rescue for about five months now and seeing what they do everyday and how much they help the animals in my local area, I felt I needed to share this.
Second Chance Pet Adoptions (their site is here, if you want to take a look) is in the Chase Community Giving Facebook contest. Voting begins today, November 8, and ends on November 22.
What it means is this:
